I had no idea that I had to take weekly progress photos – what a drag!
I had read an article where a personal trainer who specialized in training older people recommended skipping typical gym class warmups because that is where older adults have the higher risk of injury. With age comes decreased muscle elasticity, reduced joint lubrication, and loss of bone density, which can lead to muscle strains, sprains, and tendon injuries. And I often felt that the 10-15 baked in warm up in WODs just wasn’t quite enough for me. Especially during the colder months, I just can’t go from sitting in a car for 25 minutes, walk through the cold, and do a scorpion stretch without every part of my body objecting to the sudden forced movement mimicking the bend of a pretzel.
So, I started running 1 mile or walking 2 miles before every class. I’m like a diesel engine, it takes me a long time to warm up but once I get there, I’m good. And this new approach has really allowed me to feel more ready for not only the strength but the Metcon.
My total daily calories have been bumped up from 1200 to 1600. Again, this stressed me out because I felt like I was constantly eating. It was exhausting. But I understood that based on my most recent Fit3D scan that I have been undereating a very long time and I need to slowly get accustomed to properly fuel my body if I want to body recomposition.
